Justin Timberlake’s participation in Candy was “an accident,” according to Jessica Biel. In the true crime series, the actress, who co-stars alongside Melanie Lynskey as Candy Montgomery’s friend Betty Gore, commented on her husband’s appearance.

Both Timberlake and Lynskey’s husband, Jason Ritter, played cops investigating Gore’s murder at the hands of Montgomery in the series. Candy is a five-part miniseries about a heinous murder in the Texas town of Wylie.

The programme, developed by Robin Veith and Nick Antosca, is a character study of axe killer Montgomery, aiming to uncover what led this seemingly humble woman to do such a horrible crime. Biel chatted with EW about her husband’s upcoming true-crime film Candy on Hulu.

According to Timberlake, his job as a cop was a “accident.” Because Biel and Timberlake are also performers, they frequently collaborate to prepare for upcoming roles. While reading Candy’s screenplay, Timberlake became interested in one of the possible parts.

As Jessica said on Screenrant, “Justin was reading the scripts. We always share material and get notes from each other and stuff like that. And he was reading it, and he asked about that particular character, Steve Deffibaugh, [and said] ‘Who’s playing this guy?’ I said, ‘Oh, I don’t know. Probably like a local amazing actor from Atlanta.’ ‘We don’t have any money left’ was basically the conversation. And he said, ‘I want to play this part.’ And I said, ‘Yeah. Okay.’ He goes, ‘No, no. I want to play this part.'”

Biel claims she was sceptical at first that her husband was serious about the part, but she contacted her producers to inquire about his participation. Timberlake had already called them, she immediately found. Timberlake was selected despite Biel’s warning that the company couldn’t afford to pay him for the role.

Biel stated that her husband told her, “‘I don’t care about getting paid. I just want you to pay for my wig and I want my prosthetic belly.'”
