As his defamation claim against Amber Heard nears its conclusion, Johnny Depp’s lawyers took the stage on Friday to give their closing arguments, with one attorney acknowledging that the actor isn’t a ‘saint.’

“Mr. Depp is no saint, and he’s never claimed to be one,” Chew testified in the testimony in Depp’s defamation suit against ex-Amber Heard, according to The New York Post. He, like us, has made mistakes in his life.”

Chew confirmed that Depp had experienced substance misuse, but claimed that this did not indicate he was capable of abusing others.

He has struggled with drugs and alcohol … but he is not a violent abuser. He’s not an abuser as Ms. [Amber] Heard claims, and he does not deserve to have his life and legacy destroyed by [a] vicious lie,” Chew added.
