In the aftermath of the Texas school tragedy, Lifetime has postponed the debut of Mckenna Grace’s horror flick ‘The Bad Seed Returns.’
‘The Bad Seed Returns’ will now air later in 2022, according to reports. The Television Academy has been told by Lifetime that the picture will not be released within the 2022 Emmy qualifying cycle, which ends on May 31.
Grace, a 15-year-old from Grapevine, Texas, tweeted on Wednesday that she was no longer comfortable promoting the movie because of the massacre.
She wrote in the statement, “In the wake of the recent tragedy in my home state of Texas, we have decided to delay the release of ‘The Bad Seed Returns,’ Everyone involved in the project, including Lifetime, is in agreement, ” I was in first grade when Sandy Hook happened … and it feels like not much has changed since then.”
Continued the Grace’s statement, “I remember my parents teaching me emergency action plans for going to church or the movies.”
Grace and her father, Ross Burge, co-wrote the screenplay for ‘The Bad Seed Returns.’ The two executives produce alongside Grace’s mother Crystal Burge, Mark Wolper, and Barbara Marshall, who also wrote for the project.
In a sequel to Rob Lowe’s 2018 Lifetime film ‘The Bad Seed,’ the film follows Emma (Grace) after she kills her father (Lowe, who also directed the film). She is now living a regular life with her aunt, but she can only hide her dark, wicked instincts for so long.
Grace’s significant film appearances include ‘Gifted’ from 2017 and ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ from 2021. ‘The Bad Seed Returns’ isn’t the first Hollywood picture to be delayed.
