Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty’s husband, is again in trouble after news leaked yesterday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a money laundering investigation against him. According to reports, the ED is investigating Kundra’s and the other accused’s financial activities in connection with the suspected production and distribution of pornographic content.

Kundra’s counsel, Advocate Prashant Patil, has now published a statement claiming that the ED has not filed any charges or cases against him. According to the statement, “We have not recieved any official confirmation / communicationfrom the Enforcement Directorate regarding any ECIR filed in the said case against my client Mr Raj Kundra. However, if the media reports about ED taking up the matter are true then it’s my clients duty to cooperate with the inquiry / investigation conducted by ED regarding the said matter.”

According to reports from yesterday, the case was registered last week after evaluating the information gathered, and the ED would begin summoning persons involved in the case in a few days. Officials from the ED had already obtained a copy of a Mumbai police FIR against Kundra and others, as well as copies of chargesheets filed against the defendants. Advocate Patil clarified this information in his statement, saying, “The predicate offence registered by Mumbai Police has culminated into a charge sheet and pending before the Court. The said predicate case does not carry any allegations of proceeds of crime. There are no allegations by the Mumbai police in the entire chargesheet which may attract the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act. In whichever case , we have complete faith in the investigation, and we shall cooperate with the investigation to the best of our ability.”
