Ushna Shah, a popular Pakistani actress, took to social media to applaud the growing trend of placing South Asian actresses in key parts in the current Hollywood productions.

During her speech, the Parizaad actress praised Netflix’s blockbuster historical drama series Bridgerton for its good portrayal of South Asian performers.

Shah, 32, spoke to Twitter on Friday to discuss the second season of the blockbuster show, writing, “Bridgerton has opened so much space for colour in entertainment.” Shonda Rhimes, may God bless you. Finally, being noticed in meaningful characters rather than token ones is a fantastic thing.”

The Sharma sisters, played by two South Asian actors, were brought to the franchise in the second season of the Shondaland-backed series.

Charithra Chandran, a rookie, plays Edwina Sharma, while Simone Ashley plays Kate Sharma.
