In a recent interview, Anurag Kashyap talked about how people in the film industry are afraid of what they can and can’t show.

Someone asked the director if OTT content on streaming platforms has helped him tell the kinds of stories he does. He told her that it is a sword with two edges.

Recently, the actor was able to watch a screening of his upcoming film Dobaaraa at the BFI. During the course of the event, he provided responses to a number of concerns concerning the current authoritarian climate in the film business.

“At the moment, we can’t do anything that is remotely political, or remotely religious. Those are big nos. And big nos not because anyone has said that you can’t do that, but because everybody is living in an atmosphere where they don’t know how anybody is going to react. Right now, we’re very fragile, we’re very easily offended. So, for creators in India, it’s a great time to create long-form storytelling and new experimental stuff, but at the same time, we are walking a very thin line.”

Time travel and a parallel universe are at the heart of the Indian movie Dobaaraa, which is a remake of the Spanish film Mirage. Recently, the director of the gangster-thriller Gangs of Wasseypur celebrated the completion of ten years working on the picture.

When asked about the film, the director referred to it as his “greatest undoing.” He went on to say that after the release of Dobaaraa, he anticipates that audiences won’t look to him for any more gangster thrillers.
