Charlie Heaton is fully aware that not all ‘Stranger Things’ fans are pleased with his current character’s portrayal.

According to reports, the actor, who played Jonathan Byers in Netflix’s hit science fiction series, chatted with British GQ for an interview that was published online on Monday.

Given that some fans have expressed unhappiness with Jonathan’s absence from the show since the second season on social media and other online forums, Heaton was asked if he feels his character has been consigned to the sidelines during the sit-down.

Heaton replied to fan, “I know why you’re asking that”. “And I’ve definitely seen some forums like Screen Rant or something — ‘What happened to the character?’ It is an ensemble cast; obviously every season they’ve brought in new characters, wonderful characters, and they’ve taken the story to different places.”

After that, the actor praised the fourth season’s direction, comparing it to Nightmare on Elm Street. Jonathan’s love connection with Nancy Wheeler, played by Heaton’s long-term real-life girlfriend, Natalia Dyer, will be put to the test this season, according to him.

“We find him in a place of questioning himself and his relationship,” Heaton said of his character in the new episodes.

He went on to say about the show’s coupling, dubbed Jancy by fans, as stated, “You want the people to be invested in them. Sometimes it blurs into one. Me and Natalia have been together for a long time, so you’ve even got to separate it yourself sometimes.”
