The court win of Johnny Depp over his wife Amber Heard has raised the subject of his comeback as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Before the verdict in his defamation trial, the film producer testified that the “future is still to be decided.” At the time, it had not been confirmed if Johnny Depp would be involved in the new project.

Deep testified at his ex-wife Amber Heard’s trial that Heard’s defamatory remarks had harmed his career and that he had been fired from Pirates six days after the op-ed was published.

In a pre-recorded deposition delivered to the court on May 19, Disney executive Tina Newman testified that she didn’t “know one way or another” if Depp was still being considered for a part in the film.

Meanwhile, a former Walt Disney Studios official believes Depp may return to the franchise after winning his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.

While Hollywood insiders disagree on whether Depp’s career will recover following the trial, a former Disney executive believes Depp will be invited to return to the Pirates franchise shortly.

“I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board,” the former exec told People. “There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.”

Johnny Depp’s return as Captain Jack Sparrow to The Pirates of The Caribbean reboot would surely be more than a victory for him and his career in the Hollywood.
