Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s attorneys will come face to face in court again on Friday.

The lawyers will decide whether the two actors’ legal battle will be drawn out or settled once and for all.

On June 1, a jury returned a verdict finding that they had defamed each other. It was heavily skewed in Depp’s favour. The jury determined that he proved all three of his claims against Heard and deserved $15 million in damages (a figure the judge reduced for statutory reasons). Jurors awarded Heard only one of her three claims against Depp, ruling that she should receive $2 million in damages.

However, the trial judge, Judge Penney Azcarate, did not enter the jury verdict into the docket. She reportedly stated that she will do it on Friday, June 24 unless the two parties reach an agreement.

In a recent interview, Depp’s lawyer, Benjamin Chew, suggested that a settlement could be on the table, saying that his client might agree to a settlement in which he waived monetary damages in exchange for Heard agreeing not to appeal the case.

Meanwhile, Heard’s attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, stated in a separate interview that the actress could not afford the $8 million she would owe Depp and that she intended to appeal the case.
