Adam Scott has joined the cast of Madame Web, the Spider-Man spinoff movie, as per media reports. Dakota Johnson is set to play the lead role, and Emma Roberts and Sydney Sweeney have already been cast. The movie is going to be directed by S.J. Clarkson. Scott recently acted in Dan Erickson’s absurdist sci-fi dramedy Severance for AppleTV+ with John Turturro, Patricia Arquette, and Christopher Walken.
Madame Web is a mutant who was first seen in The Amazing Spider-Man No. 210 in 1980. She is a clairvoyant who is good at predicting the future of Spider-themed superheroes. She has taught Peter Parker’s alter ego and several generations of heroes who call themselves Spider-Woman.
She is usually shown as a blind, paralyzed old woman. She is kept alive by a machine that looks like a web, so she stays out of direct conflict and sends others on missions.
Madame Web is one of a number of projects that are being worked on by the studio as it builds up its Marvel-based Universe. Sony has the right to make movies about Spider-Man and other related characters. They have already put out Venom (2018), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2020), and Morbius, starring Jared Leto, in April.
Sony is also making Kraven the Hunter with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role. The studio is on a high after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has made $1.9 billion worldwide, the most in Sony’s history.
