Kylie Jenner’s jet emits less carbon than Taylor Swift’s does
In response to online articles that highlighted the harm that private jets cause to the environment, Kylie was accused of “bragging” about “her absolute disregard for the planet.”
Many people looked further into her jet’s flight history during the backlash and were horrified to learn that it frequently took flights as short as 12 minutes.
However, a recent study found that Kylie doesn’t even rank among the top 10 celebrities who fly privately and emit the most CO2.
Although Kylie’s jet only has an average flight time of 24.5 minutes, according to research from sustainability-focused digital marketing agency Yard, many celebrities are doing much worse than she is.
Taylor Swift, a singer, was found to have produced more emissions on her own in just seven months than 1,184 average people would produce in a year, according to the company.
Her two jets actually flew 170 times in just 200 days this year, resulting in 8,293.54 metric tonnes of CO2 in flight-related emissions as of July 20.
The average person emits only 7 metric tonnes of CO2 annually, according to Yard’s report.
Although many people would be excused for assuming that Taylor’s flights would primarily be between the US and the UK, where she resides with her partner Joe Alwyn, her average flight time is only 80 minutes.
Taylor’s flight from Missouri to Nashville in her jet took just 36 minutes, according to records from 2022.
