Shane Richie net worth explored as he confirms EastEnders return
Shane Richie is best known for playing Alfie Moon on EastEnders, but the actor has had an incredible and varied career to date.
The actor, who has intermittently portrayed the Albert Square figure since 2002, is scheduled to return to the BBC serial opera this year, undoubtedly amassing a sizeable fortune.
In a previous interview, the 58-year-old celebrity said he had signed up for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! because the coronavirus outbreak caused all of his employment to be cancelled, leaving him “literally stinted.”
According to reports, Shane Richie has a £150,000 estimated net worth.
He was reputedly making £230,000 a year acting in EastEnders at the height of his career.
Despite his enormous success, the actor has admitted that he has been having financial difficulties.
He told: “I was going on tour, doing a TV series and panto but it all got cancelled in March. Now I am literally skint!
“You save for a rainy day but you don’t expect the rainy day to last eight months. Thankfully, I’ve been able to borrow money from mates, my family and the bank.”
Shane also explained: “I got rid of my car but only because I lease a car for my wife for the school run. I can get around on a moped.
“I am alright, I have had a career and if it all finishes tomorrow, so be it. If the worst comes to the worst, I’ll do stand-up or resurrect a musical.”
Shane has also presented several gameshows, including Reflex and Win Your Wish List.
Discussing his finances in his autobiography, Rags to Richie, he explained: “Despite all the money coming in, I didn’t put a single penny to one side.”
He added: “I had no savings account and no pension. My philosophy was ‘Treat every day as if it was your last because one day you’ll be right!’”.
The actress played a retired drag queen in the musical Everyone’s Talking About Jamie before the coronavirus outbreak forced it to be postponed.
Shane had anticipated making a staggering £100,000 for his efforts on stage, but that has now been delayed until 2021, according to The Sun.
