Sushmita Sen has always been honest and never apologised for anything, whether it was about being a mom or about her relationships. Even though she had to deal with crazy rumours and questions about marriage, she never gave in to social pressure.

In a recent free-flowing conversation, the actress openly talked about her personal life, relationships, children, and why she never got married.

During an interview with Twinkle Khanna for the show The Icons, the actor said that she almost got married three times but didn’t because the men weren’t good enough. She also said that God kept her from marrying the wrong person every time.

She added, “Luckily, I’ve met some very interesting men in my life, and the only reason I didn’t get married is because they were a letdown. It had nothing to do with my kids. My kids were never in the equation; if anything, they have been very gracious. They have accepted people in my life with open arms, given everybody an equal measure of love and respect. It’s the most beautiful thing to watch. I came close to getting married thrice. All three times, God saved me. I can’t tell you what disasters followed with their respective lives. God did protect me, but also because God protected these two kids, he can’t let me get into a messy affair,”.

Sushmita Sen said that when she first started dating after adopting Renee, she made it clear that her daughter will always be her top priority and that she never expected anyone else to share that responsibility with her.

She also says “Once I became a mother and Renee happened, forget Alisah, when Renee happened, there was no man thereafter, who came into my life and didn’t know my priority was her. There were no two ways about it. So, it wasn’t like, ‘I love you, baby, and I’ll do anything for you’, because I wasn’t that age, one. And two, I wasn’t giving false hopes anywhere. This was it. My daughter is very, very important to me, till a certain age, because she needs me. Now, I don’t expect anybody to come and share the responsibility with me, but never try and ask me to step away from it,”.

Sushmita Sen adopted her first daughter, Renee, at the young age of 24. This went against many stereotypes. Even though she had a child when she was at the top of her career, the actor never got married quickly. Her reason was that she wanted to find the best partner, not just a father for her kids.
