Olivia Wilde says Shia LaBeouf offered her an ultimatum and she ‘chose’ F. Pugh
Olivia Wilde is not going to back down. The director of “Don’t Worry, Darling” recently talked about her problems with Shia LaBeouf on Stephen Colbert’s talk show. For those who don’t know, LaBeouf was supposed to be in the upcoming psychological thriller, but the part went to Wilde’s boyfriend Harry Styles instead, who will star with Florence Pugh.
After Wilde said that she had fired LaBeouf because of how hard he worked, the actor came out to clear the air and showed proof that he was the one who quit working on the movie. In a new interview, however, Wilde says that she still stands by what she said before. She says that LaBeouf gave her a “ultimatum” to choose between him and Florence Pugh. Things didn’t work out between the two former leads. LaBeouf had said before that he wanted to practise the scenes, but Pugh didn’t like the idea.
The media quotes the Booksmart director as saying, “We had to replace Shia. He is a fantastic actor, but it wasn’t gonna work,” and finally disclosed that she had to choose sides, “When he gave me the ultimatum of, you know, him or Florence, I chose Florence.”
Wilde also addressed LaBeouf’s claims that Wilde practically begged for him to take the role as she noted, “That was him feeling he was stepping away and me feeling like we were moving on without him.” Wilde went on to explain, “Early on in the process of making the film, as the director, I tried to mediate a situation between people to try to see if they could work together happily.”
Wilde had to make a hard choice in the end. He said, “Once it became clear that it was not a tenable working relationship, I was given an ultimatum. I chose my actress — which I’m very happy I did.”
