Adult Swim has cancelled the animated comedy ‘Tuca & Bertie’, which starred Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong.

In May 2019, the adult series made its Netflix debut before being cancelled by the service that summer.

The sitcom was saved by Adult Swim, who stepped in to run two more seasons over the previous two summers. BoJack Horseman creator Lisa Hanawalt is the creator of the show. )

Hanawalt thanked the audience for their support during the show’s entire run as she announced Adult Swim’s second cancellation on Twitter.

She spoke on working with Adult Swim and the entire Tuca & Bertie creative team for the second and third seasons as follows:

“Working with Adult Swim was very creatively fulfilling, our execs were all smart and thoughtful, and I’m grateful that we got the space to make all these wild and heartfelt episodes about things that matter to me very much.

I’m so proud of the work done by all my talented coworkers and collaborators on this show. Please watch the end credits and take note of all of these names in the cast and crew. I’m also very glad we were able to be covered by both The Animation Guild and the Writers Guild of America. I hope any show creators who have the leverage to fight for unionizing their productions will continue to do so.”

Hanawalt noted in her post’s conclusion that she still plans to tell Tuca & Bertie’s extremely particular and original ending in some way.

She adds that she hopes to keep telling stories that, as she saw with Tuca & Bertie, have a profound emotional impact on her audience.

Each of her sincere phrases reveals her love for the readers, collaborators, and characters.

As was virtually the case when Netflix made the same decision three years ago, it’s unclear why Tuca & Bertie was cancelled.

The adult animation market is very busy, and Adult Swim is home to Rick and Morty, one of the genre’s biggest powerhouses.

However, Tuca & Bertie stood out for being able to focus on female-focused storytelling, a feature that is mostly explored in series like Big Mouth and Harley Quinn.

Tuca & Bertie comes next “Tuca Toucan (Haddish) and Roberta ‘Bertie’ Songthrush (Wong), two anthropomorphic birds who live in the same apartment complex. The former has more of an impulsive personality, while Bertie is more nervous and career-minded.”

The friendship between the two was frequently the subject of episodes of the show, as well as their difficulties adjusting to maturity.

Steven Yeun (Minari), Nicole Byer (Nailed It! ), Richard E. Grant (Can You Ever Forgive Me? ), Reggie Watts (Comedy Bang! Bang! ), and Jennifer Lewis were other regular cast members (Sister Act).

HBO Max has all 30 episodes of Tuca & Bertie accessible for streaming.
