Does the best teen detective in London have two left feet? According to Millie Bobby Brown’s behind-the-scenes video of her dancing practice with Louis Partridge for Enola Holmes 2, it sure seems like way.
Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), struggles to establish herself as a detective independent of her mysterious big brother in the Netflix movie, which stars Brown in the title character.
All of the main characters in the movie exhibit some significant character growth, including Lord Tewkesbury (Partridge), who has transformed from a dimwit to London’s most eligible bachelor.
When the youngest Holmes family member is obliged to seek the now-powerful young Lord’s assistance in her most recent case, Enola and Tewkesbury’s worlds come together once more.
Naturally, the only way to solve her case is to pose as a guest at a ball and ask one of the distinguished guests to dance the waltz.
Enola is not able to dance, which is the only minor exception. Enola begs Tewkesbury to give a makeshift dance lesson in a restroom because he has been trained to dance flawlessly in contrast.
Tewkesbury leads Enola through a waltz that is so electrifying that the tension is evident as the two ignite the ball bathroom despite their less than ideal placement.
Brown released two videos of her and Partridge practising dance moves after the movie’s premiere.
The Stranger Things actress can be seen in the first video exaggeratingly putting one left in front of the other while imitating a waltz-style stride while she waits for her cue. She then joins her hands above her head and spins around like a dancer in a jewellery box.
Brown and her co-star then stroll around the floor together while keeping time, occasionally grinning as they persevere through the performance despite a few hiccups. The second video, in which Brown is wearing heels rather than trainers, looks to be from later in the rehearsal phase because the pair is much more fluidly moving through the routines.
The actress joked about her errors in the message, “two left feet,” adding a face-palm emoji for good measure. The two has received a lot of fan praise for their priceless on-screen chemistry, so it’s clear that the preparation paid off.
The romance between Enola and Tewkesbury serves as the sequel’s main plot line, although Enola Holmes 2 also explores some of history’s more sinister eras.
Ahead of the Match Girls’ Strike of 1888, in which women and young girls refused to continue making matches under harsh working circumstances, the story is set in 19th-century London.
Director Harry Bradbeer explained why he chose to include such a significant portion of actual history in the film, saying: “We watched and remembered, and I kind of dusted off my memory, of the Match Girls Factory strike. Here’s a tale of sisterhood, I reasoned. Here is an example of how a story about constitutional change evolved into one about social change, union change, and industrial action.
Netflix now has Enola Holmes 2 available. The trailer is below, and you can view Brown’s video on Instagram.
