Falling For Christmas: Lindsay’s music video recalls Mean Girls
We’re watching Lindsay Lohan’s music video for her cover of “Jingle Bell Rock” ahead of her feature film return in Netflix’s Falling For Christmas.
As notable as wearing pink on Wednesdays and October 3, the Christmas song will quickly transport you back to 2004, when Lohan appeared in the cult great comedy Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters.
To refresh your recollection, Lohan’s Cady Heron performed a scandalous version of the song in front of her high school alongside the titular gang of girls (also known as “The Plastics”) Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried), and Gretchen Wieners in the film (Lacey Chabert).
The moment, like the rest of the film, is a work of cinematic art that has inspired many people over the years, including Ariana Grande, who paid homage to it in her music video for “Thank U, Next.”
Almost two decades have passed since Lohan donned a sexy Santa suit and danced with her co-stars in the film, and now the singer and actress has released her own interpretation of the song, replete with a music video that doubles as a teaser for her upcoming holiday rom-com, Falling For Christmas.
The video contains no last-minute lineup changes or boombox malfunctions, but it does break down the plot of the film.
We show Lohan’s wealthy well-to-do heiress living her best life, complete with all the material possessions she could desire, and the proposal-turned-skiing accident that will eventually lead her to lose her memory.
Fortunately for her, she is taken in by a beautiful lodge owner (Chord Overstreet), who looks after her while she recovers. Of course, a relationship develops, and Lohan’s heiress is eventually forced to make a life-changing decision.
Lohan was a tremendous figure in late-’90s and early-’00s teen-targeted cinema, starring in great films like Nancy Meyers’ The Parent Trap, John Waters’ Freaky Friday, and, of course, Mean Girls.
She would eventually leave Hollywood and transfer her life to Europe and Dubai. Lohan hasn’t appeared in a major production in several years, with the exception of a few minor roles in film and television.
Making her way back through Netflix’s holiday special, the actress has signed up for two more projects with the streaming service. While one has yet to be named, we do know that the other is called Irish Wish and will be a fantasy rom-com that will be released in 2023.
Falling For Christmas will be available on Netflix on November 10th.
