Janhvi Kapoor has stated that her association with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has made her a “target for easy hatred,” but she does not regret it.

Janhvi Kapoor made her breakthrough in Dhadak, the official Hindi remake of the Marathi blockbuster Sairat. Karan Johar and his Dharma Productions label produced the film. Janhvi has since appeared in a few other films produced by Karan, prompting many to criticise her for being privileged. Janhvi addressed that privilege in a recent interview, saying that being launched by Karan and Dharma has made her a target for hatred. Janhvi Kapoor believes she would look good in a film with Ranveer Singh.

Dharma Productions is one of India’s largest film production companies. It was founded over 40 years ago by the late Yash Johar and is now run by his son, Karan Johar. Dharma produced Janhvi’s first two films, Dhadak and Gunjan Saxena. Many people claimed that Janhvi, the daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, had it easy because not many newcomers are given so many films by such a large production house.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Life, Janhvi was asked if she believes her association with Dharma has made her an easy target for trolling. “I think it has to do with the fact that Dharma is such an iconic production house,” she responded. Whatever people say, I’ve realised that Dharma’s curiosity and reach, as well as the level of interest it arouses in audiences, may be unparalleled. Yes, it has increased the pressure and made me a target that is easy to despise.”

However, the 25-year-old added that she does not regret beginning her career with the production house and under the mentorship of Karan Johar. “But I will never, ever regret it because what Dharma and Karan have given me makes me feel so incredibly fortunate and privileged.” It goes beyond that. If you know Karan and what that production house stands for, you’ll notice that it’s more about creative decisions and a man’s creative vision that he adheres to. And I admire you tremendously. “Most importantly, it has given me confidence, love, and guidance from a maker like Karan,” she added.

Mili, Janhvi’s first collaboration with filmmaker father Boney Kapoor, was her most recent release. The movie came out earlier this month. She is currently working on two films: Bawaal and Mr & Mrs Mahi.
