Joe Russo: TikTok will influence the live-action remake of Hercules
Disney, however, has these and other live-action projects in development, including the 1997 animated picture Hercules. Ritchie will once again direct the adaptation, with Joe and Anthony Russo, brothers in the movie business, on board to produce. And now there is more information about what might be in store for the future adaptation.
More than a few live-action remakes of classic Disney animated movies from the 1990s have been released recently. The anticipated 2023 remake of The Little Mermaid, directed by Rob Marshall, follows the critically acclaimed 2019 remake of Aladdin by Guy Ritchie and the 2020 adaption of Mulan by Niki Caro.
The Russo brothers’ independent production company, AGBO, will handle the Hercules remake. Joe Russo spoke on what viewers may anticipate from the upcoming adaptation in an interview with Variety. The director claims that the adaption will be “a little bit more adventurous in tone and execution.”
Russo claims that with this new remake, something different will be presented in a time when remakes of the Disney classics have been criticized for having too many similarities to their original works.
The director believes that people are eager to see what we can all contribute to the project that isn’t just a retelling of the animated movie.
Russo continues by announcing that the future adaption will be a musical with a somewhat “contemporary” touch to it, and he shares what will serve as some inspiration for the movie—a it’s little different.
There are concerns regarding how to adapt it for the stage, according to Russo. “TikTok has trained audiences today, right? What do they think the musical will look like and feel like? That can be a lot of fun and aid in our efforts to push the limits of how modern musicals are performed.
The Russos and Ritchie will strive to create a remake that can match the high standards set by the 1997 feature film as closely as feasible.
There are those who want to be in front of the camera while the wits behind the camera work to make the remake unforgettable.
Danny DeVito, who provided the voice for Philoctetes, sometimes known as Phil, in the 1997 original, has expressed interest in appearing in the live-action version.
DeVito expressed interest in the role by saying, “If they don’t put me in that, they don’t have a hair on their ass.”
Later on, he continues, “I am the real-life Hercules!” Certainly, we could use Phil’s unrivalled wisdom as well as his ears and tail.
Hercules is still in its early stages of manufacturing. Below is a link to the initial trailer.
