Selena Gomez named her new kidney after Fred Armisen
Selena Gomez said that she named her new kidney after comedian Fred Armisen after having a kidney donation in 2017. Learn why.
Selena Gomez will always have a special place in her heart for Fred Armisen.
The Only Murders in the Building actress knew she wanted to give her new kidney a special name when she had a kidney transplant in 2017.
“I named it after Fred Armisen because I love Portlandia,” Selena said in a Nov. 3 interview with Rolling Stone. “I’ve never met him, but I’m secretly hoping he finds that out just because I want him to be like, ‘That’s weird.'”
Along with actress Carrie Brownstein, Armisen co-created the sketch comedy programme Portlandia, which was situated in Portland, Oregon and made light of the area’s hipster reputation. From 2011 until 2018, the programme aired on IFC for eight seasons.
The show’s later seasons aired amid a particularly trying time in Gomez’s life.
Selena Gomez, the subject of the newest Apple TV+ documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, received a kidney transplant soon after the release of her second solo album Revival in 2015 after receiving a lupus diagnosis.
“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” she said on Instagram in Sept. 2017. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering.”
