Just a few days before his 97th birthday on December 13, the star of the Dick Van Dyke Show was seen out and about in Malibu, California, running errands. He was wished a happy birthday and asked what the key to his long life was, as can be seen in a video that The Daily Mail published.

“Well, if I’d known I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself,” the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star said, before noting that he doesn’t know what the secret to his long life is. He added, “Well, I don’t know, all my friends are dead, so I’m not going to complain!”

The reporter questioned Van Dyke if he would hear from Julie Andrews on his birthday before he carried on with the rest of his day. That’s correct, she’s still alive, he said after saying that he didn’t know where she was these days and then pausing to glance around.

As he approaches his 100th year of life, Van Dyke’s famous sense of humour was on display in the encounter. Over 70 years into his career, he is still going strong. He made an appearance in the 2022 film The 90s Club, provided the voice of Hopscotch the Sasquatch for two episodes of the Showtime series Kidding in 2020, and played Mr. Dawes, Jr. in the
