At the Norfolk estate, the King and Queen Consort, Camilla, were joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales, their children, and other senior royals.

People started gathering early in the morning in front of St. Mary Magdalene Church.

It’s the first Christmas since 2019 that members of the Royal Family have spent at Sandringham House.

The royal flag is flying over the house, which means that traditional royal celebrations are back.

As members of the Royal Family made the short walk from Sandringham House to the church just before 11:00 GMT, the church organ began to play.

The Duke of York and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, as well as the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children, went to the service.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not there. The last time they spent Christmas at Sandringham was in 2018.

After the 45-minute service, the King and Queen Consort, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, spoke to the crowd. Some people in the crowd gave them gifts and flowers.

King’s speech marks new era for 90-year tradition

Since his mother died, this is the first time the King has hosted the Royal Family’s annual gathering at the Norfolk estate.

Queen Elizabeth II has celebrated Christmas at Sandringham for 32 years, but because of the Covid pandemic, she won’t be able to do so in 2020 and 2021.

This afternoon, the first Christmas message from the King will be sent out. It was recorded on December 13 in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where the late Queen was laid to rest in September.
