Melissa Joan Hart, who played Sabrina the Teenage Witch, put down her wand permanently when the famous sitcom ended in 2003 after seven seasons, and she isn’t exactly ready to brew up another batch for a prospective relaunch.

“I just don’t think it would be as great as the original,” Melissa exclusively told E! News at ChristmasCon Dec. 10. “I just don’t think there’s any way. People are nostalgic for what they had. Trying to recreate that can be really difficult, as we’ve seen.”

While it’s undoubtedly true that not every remake or spinoff is a commercial success, Melissa did point out that a Sabrina reimagining had “already been done with Netflix” in the form of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which starred Kiernan Shipka as the titular teenage witch and was available on Netflix from 2018 to 2020.

Melissa claimed that she “always loves to move forward,” but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t heard Sabrina fans ask for more witchy goodies throughout the years, particularly in regards to Harvey (Nate Richert), who Sabrina went off with at the end of the series.

“Everybody talks about her and Harvey have a baby,” she said, “and the baby finds out she’s got powers or something.”

However, if that sounds familiar—it’s because it is.

“That was done with [Bewitched spinoff] Tabitha,” Melissa recalled. “That’s been done a lot. If someone can figure out a different way in, that’d be great.”
