Sonya Eddy Dies at 55
Sonya Eddy died at the age of 55.
In a post to her Instagram account on Tuesday, actress Octavia Spencer broke the news of the passing of a close friend. “The world has suffered the loss of an additional creative angel. Her multitudes of General Hospital followers will certainly miss her.
Spencer provided no immediate information regarding the cause of death.
The character of Epiphany Johnson, which Eddy played on General Hospital, brought her the most fame. Beginning in 2006, she had a starring role in the show as the nurse, who was also the fictitious mother of the character Stan Johnson. The episode that Eddy played as the nurse for the final time aired in November of 2020.
Eddy has made guest appearances in a number of films and television series, including Pee-Big Wee’s Holiday, Pee-Inspector Wee’s Gadget, Pee-Barbershop, Wee’s Pee-Daddy Wee’s Daycare, Matchstick Men, Bad News Bears, Seven Pounds, and The Perfect Game. He is best known for his work on General Hospital. Films such as “Frank and Penelope,” “V/H/S/99,” and “Satanic Hispanics” were among her projects for the year 2022.
A number of people paid tribute to the long-lasting influence that Eddy had as Epiphany Johnson in the comments section of Spencer’s Instagram post.
“It’s not possible. Throughout my childhood, she was a constant presence at my home. “The most amazing nurse on General Hospital,” one reader remarked.
“OMG! So sad. Another fan remarked that they “love Sonya” and that they “enjoyed every minute she was on screen.” “I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I pray that she finds rest in the everlasting serenity.
