Wednesday Addams will never be accused of wearing her emotions on her sleeve.

With one of her death glances, the broody, macabre kid at the centre of Netflix’s Wednesday can turn you to stone, but she seldom ever starts crying.

In truth, it only occurred once throughout the entirety of season one, when Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) rushed Thing her Uncle Fester’s (Fred Armisen) assistance after the disembodied hand was discovered stabbed to Wednesday’s wall in her dorm room at Nevermore Academy.

“It’s also a really important moment for Wednesday,” Jenna said on Still Watching Netflix Dec. 20. “I think it’s the only time we really see her cry.”

Indeed, Wednesday is seen wiping away tears after Fester manages to magically save Thing’s life. As Jenna explained, seeing Wednesday get emotional elevated the scene to another, very impactful level.

“I’m glad it was over him, though,” Jenna said about her tears. “I don’t think it would have made sense over anything else.”

This is the first time you get to see Wednesday truly frantic, so you could tell she really cares about Thing, which is beautiful, said Joy Sunday, who plays Bianca Barclay, a classmate at Nevermore Academy.

Nothing compares to the affection a girl has for her sentient best friend with five fingers.

It turns out that Thing is a hand, which is how he appears to be so real on the show. On Wednesday, hand actor and performer Victor Dorobantu plays Thing, playing a crucial part in the poignant sequence.

“That was Victor,” Jenna explained, “a blue man under the table.”
