As Season 3 of LEGO Masters draws to a close, it continues to raise the stakes of the competition while also bringing increasingly surprising elements to the screen.

Following episodes about dogs, dinosaurs, Brad Pitt, and Canadians, the current season of the reality competition series nears its conclusion with a NASCAR-themed episode.

The episode, titled “Start Your Engines,” airs tonight and features a certain big-time stock car champion named Jeff Gordon.

While the episode was airing, FOX released a clip online that “revealed” how LEGO Masters host Will Arnett got on set in time for the competition.

Arnett becomes desperate when his car breaks down in the middle of a racing arena for some reason, and he has no other mode of transportation.

Because the show cannot begin without its host, he accepts a ride from Gordon in order to arrive on time.

The problem is that Gordon is accustomed to exceedingly fast speeds, putting Arnett in the passenger seat for a ride he will never forget.

Gordon drives his car at competition-level speeds, prompting Arnett to break character and request that the racer slow down so he can, you know, not fear for his life.

The segment is simply a funny clip to highlight the episode’s theme: In this round, the four remaining teams must construct a fashionable race car.

The team must then choose a driver to complete ten laps behind the wheel of the LEGO-covered car. Judges vote on car aesthetics to determine who gets the pole position to determine the order of the racers.

And it gets more difficult: about halfway through the race, the go-kart must pit and the team must rebuild a LEGO tyre. The winner advances to the semi-finals.

NASCAR driver William Byron announced his participation in the episode and revealed he is a LEGO builder in an official statement:

“I loved being a part of ‘LEGO Masters’! To get a chance to see the creativity and thought process that went into the build was impressive. As a fan of building LEGO projects myself, it was super cool to see how they start from scratch and create what they do.”

LEGO Masters is a popular reality competition series that has had versions in Germany, Australia, China, Colombia, and France. In all versions, talented LEGO builders dazzle judges and audiences by creating extraordinary scenes and characters you never thought possible. In the United States, the winning LEGO building team receives a $100,000 prize.
