Angelina Jolie’s old speech on domestic violence goes viral
Actress Angelina Jolie has received praise for speaking out for the predicament of abuse victims, political refugees, and many other groups. In an address in the Capitol in Washington, D.C., the former Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR emphasized the pressing need for a suitable bill to update the Violence Against Women Act.
Now that the speech has been reshared on Twitter, it has gained popularity. Jolie is seen in the video discussing the Act with congressional senators.
Jolie stated in the speech that many people find it difficult to leave abusive situations because they have been taught to feel unworthy. “That feeling of worthlessness is reinforced by the silence from a Congress that is too busy to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act for ten years. You begin to feel like your abuser is correct—you aren’t worth anything, she continued.
