The most likely nominee for best picture, Hollywood’s most prized award, is Tom Cruise‘s much anticipated follow-up to his big 1986 smash, but other well-liked sequels like “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” may also receive a nod.

They will face competition from a wide spectrum of films, ranging from Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed “The Fabelmans” to the buzz-generating sci-fi hit “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voters are also paying close attention to the Irish black comedy “The Banshees of Inisherin,” the rock and roll drama “Elvis,” and Cate Blanchett’s most recent masterpiece “Tar.”

According to Clayton Davis, senior awards editor at Variety, “this year is one of the most unknowable years. “In comparison to any other year in his life, he noted, “I definitely have put more work into talking to Academy members to try to assess their enthusiasm and see where the race is headed.”

I probably have the least knowledge. The recent enormous increase in the number of international Academy voters is a significant problematic issue for Oscars forecasters.

They have been attributed with unexpected successes like the South Korean film “Parasite” winning best picture in 2020 and the nomination of the Japanese film “Drive My Car” the previous year. International features have appeared recently, and Davis predicted the trend might continue.
