 Sally Field for Brady actress told the audience how long she’s known the filmmaker and how the two almost went on a date during a speech awarding the The Fabelmans director and team for the Vanguard Award at the 34th Palm Springs Film Awards on Thursday.

Field began, “My recently hired business manager wanted me to meet one of his clients and wanted me to go to Universal for a bogus “meeting” because he thought the two of us would get along great. And my darling Steven Spielberg has never left my life, even though we never actually went on a date. Is it truly almost 50 years now? e have gone through this life that’s been filled with good and bad, the laughter and the angst,” she lovingly recalled. “He has been my biggest supporter and a constantly welcoming place.”

Despite not dating, the two have been close friends for their whole lives. Field acknowledged her friend’s enormous contribution to filmmaking in her remarks.

The 76-year-old Steel Magnolias actress stated, “I honestly can’t fathom my life without him at this time, but I can’t image our country, much less the business, had Steven Spielberg never held a camera in his hands.

Her words were followed by the statement, “His vision, his sense of comedy and fun, of fear and amusement, his humanity and heart have been woven into the awareness of the entire globe.

Hollywood legends other than Steven Spielberg have also been mentioned recently by Field. The actress revealed in December that her worst on-screen kiss entailed “a lot of drooling”
