David Crosby, a rock superstar, passed away after a “long” disease struggle. He was 81. The devastating news was revealed by the singer’s wife, Jan Dance on Thursday.

After a protracted illness, our beloved David (Croz) Crosby passed away, according to the statement. He was devotedly surrounded by his soulmate Jan, his wife, and their son Django.

“Although he is no longer with us, his humanism and loving soul will continue to lead and inspire us,” the statement read. Through his iconic songs, he will continue to leave a lasting legacy. To everyone who knew David and the people he impacted, peace, love, and harmony. He will be sorely missed.

The family ended the message by requesting “privacy” from the public during this trying time and expressing gratitude to the guitarist’s supporters for their “love and prayers.”

Alongside Gene Clark, Rogen McGuinn, and Chris Hillman, Crosby became famous in the middle of the 1960s while playing the guitar and singing for The Byrds.

He co-founded Crosby, Stills & Nash with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash after his astounding success with the top-charting band.

In 1969, Neil Young joined the legendary quartet, and the foursome performed together intermittently throughout the ensuing forty years.

Despite having three straight No. 1 albums and winning the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1970, the band ultimately chose to break up in 2015 due to an ongoing dispute between Crosby and Nash.

However, after learning of Crosby’s passing, Nash thought back on all the happy years they had together and the songs they had created.

He wrote in an Instagram post, “It is with a deep and profound sadness that I learned that my friend David Crosby has passed,”

“I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years.”

He continued, “David was fearless in life and in music. He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world. He spoke his mind, his heart, and his passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy. These are the things that matter most.”

For his work with the Byrds, Crosby was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. He was then inducted again with Nash and Stills in 1997. David Crosby: Remember My Name, a documentary about the rock star’s life, was published in 2019.

Although the movie didn’t go into detail about his five-month prison sentence in 1985 for having a pistol and narcotics, it did discuss the singer-influence songwriter’s on the music industry and the difficult relationships that followed.

“The majority of documentaries are shine jobs… We did not polish it, it is not shiny, and I am a flawed individual. At the premiere, Crosby remarked, “I’m not cute at all. I’m a man with a really troubled past who has gone through a lot of things. I never lied.

The late rocker Floyd Crosby, who was born in Los Angeles in 1941 to Oscar-winning filmmaker Floyd Crosby, always knew he wanted to be a musician.

And despite his best efforts to stay on the straight and narrow, Crosby ultimately decided to leave Santa Barbara City College as an adolescent to follow his goals.

He said to American Songwriter last year that his brother introduced him to jazz and that the two of them used to sing while doing the dishes. I enjoy singing and listening to music, so making it is for me the most natural thing in the world. Never once did I consider changing who I am.

The late artist claimed that Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan gave him the motivation to begin creating his own lyrics rather than simply singing “songs that have been around for hundred of years.”

2009 saw Singer’s induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Daughters Erika and Donovan from the singer’s previous partnerships, as well as sons Django and James Raymond, survive Crosby. He also leaves behind his wife Dance, whom he married in 1987.

Beckett and Bailey Jean, the two daughters of Melissa Etheridge’s former companion Julie Cypher, were also fathered by him through artificial insemination. At age 21 in 2020, Beckett passed away.
