Quinta Brunson, 33, opened her address at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday with, “Thank you so, so much.” “I made this programme because I enjoy humour. There are so many people in this room right now who make me who I am. I do not mean to sound cheesy, but watching you, Henry Winkler, is one of the reasons I am here today. I am going to gather myself and say that we created this show because we enjoy comedy and television. I adore this cast; they are mine. Without them, I am not sure where I would be. This show is ours to create for everyone. I am glad Abbott Elementary can make so many people laugh at such a trying time for this nation.

Prior to the historic 80th ceremony, Abbott Elementary (ABC), The Bear (FX), Hacks (HBO), Only Murders in the Building (Hulu), and Wednesday (Netflix) were all nominated.

Abbott Elementary grew in popularity among critics and viewers alike soon after its December 2021 premiere. The mockumentary sitcom, created by star Quinta Brunson, follows a group of teachers navigating the ups and downs of working at their Philadelphia public school.

Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Sheryl Lee Ralph and William Stanford Davis also star in the hit series.

Previously opening up about making the comedy show, Brunson told that she “just wanted to make a good show with good people.”

She added of starting the show, “To be honest, I did not have to deal with much ‘I do not see it. “There was one other network, which we will not name, that did not see its value, but that is how things are. That negotiation was won by ABC.”
