The royals are no strangers to having their pictures taken, with photographers on hand to capture every move they make while on duty.

But there was one type of photo they seemed to avoid, with Meghan Markle even admitting she was told she couldn’t pose for one.

In recent months, however, with most well-wishers arriving at royal events with their phones in hand, the Prince and Princess of Wales have been seen throwing their arms around the public and smiling for photos with them.

Just last week, William and Kate patiently posed for a slew of selfies while touring the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, while Queen Consort Camilla and even King Charles were spotted taking part.

Although there was no official prohibition on royals posing for selfies, several members of the Firm had previously expressed their displeasure with the photos.

In 2018, William described himself as “allergic” to selfies, while his younger brother, Prince Harry, expressed his disdain for them in 2015, telling an Australian fan to take a normal photo instead.

He told her: “No, I hate selfies. Seriously, you need to get out of it (the habit), I know you’re young, selfies are bad. Just take a normal photograph!”

The late Queen was also said to dislike selfies, and on her first royal engagement in Nottingham in 2017, Meghan Markle told wellwishers, “We’re not allowed to do selfies.”

But there don’t seem to be the same rules when it comes to the snaps anymore, especially with William and Kate.

Parents recently asked Kate for a photo with her while she was visiting a nursery in Luton.

And she gladly obliged by wrapping a friendly arm around them while they took selfies on their phones.
