Meredith Grey is embarking on a new adventure.

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is ready to say goodbye to Seattle and move to Boston with her family in a preview for Grey’s Anatomy’s winter return, which was presented during Wednesday’s Television Critics Association panels.

As memorable scenes from the previous 19 seasons are replayed, she explains in a voiceover, “This is where I learned to be a doctor, where I found my family, and where I fell in love.”

While Meredith admits she is open to trying anything new, she adds that “sometimes change is good, sometimes change is everything.”

In the episode “I’ll Follow the Sun,” Meredith is being surprised by her coworkers with a farewell toast on her last day at Grey Sloan Memorial.

“You know I’ll probably be back next week,” she toasts.

Do you mind if I just toast you? Kevin McKidd’s character, Owen Hunt, reacts.

Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) is also questioned by Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) (James Pickens Jr.).

Meredith’s narrative ended before the holidays, with her character electing to relocate from Seattle to Boston, where she got a position with the Catherine Fox Foundation to research Alzheimer’s disease.

There have been far more dramatic and sad exits from the show, and Meredith’s new role surely opens the door for additional cameos.

Pompeo took a vacation from Grey’s Anatomy this season to work on other projects, such as Orphan, which tells the terrifying story of an adoption in which a couple’s new daughter turns out to be an adult woman dressed as a child.

Pompeo talked about her reduced part on The Drew Barrymore Show, an ABC medical drama, last month.
