Netflix to start streaming SAG Awards from next year
Netflix to start streaming SAG Prizes, one of the most prestigious awards established to honor the best performers in movie and television, is making headlines. According to recent rumors, the Screen Actors Guild – the federation for American television and radio performers – has formed a multi-year deal with the OTT juggernaut Netflix
Surprisingly, reports about the Screen Actors Guild Awards airing live on Netflix starting the following year, in 2024, have come to pass. “We are excited to start working with Netflix and look forward to expanding the show’s global audience. The SAG Awards are a special and beloved element of the entertainment industry since they are the only televised awards show that only recognises the acting achievements of performers who have millions of admirers.
“Both the artistic community and the general public appreciate the SAG Awards. And now, a lot more admirers from around the globe will be able to recognise these exceptional actors. We look forward to working with SAG-AFTRA to elevate and expand this outstanding ceremony as a global live event in 2024 and beyond as we continue to study live streaming on Netflix “Bela Bajaria, Head of Global TV at Netflix, made this formal statement.

Now, let’s have a look at 5 things you need to know about the prestigious SAG Awards..
The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists established the SAG. The Awards ceremony was established in 1952 to honor the best performances in films and prime-time television. In 1995, the ceremony, which honors both individual performances and the entire cast and crew of television shows and films, became one of the most recognized events in the Hollywood industry.
For the uninitiated, the SAG Awards nominations are finalized by two separate committees. They are comprised of 2100 Screen Actors Guild members. Both committees are appointed each year, and the remaining 1,65,000 members are able to vote on the winners. In the Academy Awards, the same has been considered a marker of a successful acting career.
Since 1988, the SAG Awards have been broadcast on TNT, aka Turner Network Television, a popular American basic cable television network owned by Turner Broadcasting System. Later, in 2007, the ceremony began to be televised simultaneously on TBS, Warner Bros.’ American pay television network. The Screen Actors Guild, on the other hand, has formally ended its relationship with both TNT and TBS in 2022 and has negotiated a long-term pact with the OTT behemoth Netflix.
