Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco to express their condolences on the demise of the archbishop.

On Wednesday, the Prince and Princess of Monaco attended the funeral of Monsignor Bernard Barsi in Monaco. The royal pair wore black to fit the melancholy occasion. Princess Caroline of Hanover, the older sister of Prince Albert, was also captured on camera as she made her way inside the Cathedral of Monaco. In order to show respect while attending church, Caroline, much like Charlene, covered her hair with a traditional black mantilla veil.

Barsi reportedly passed away last week at the age of 80 after suffering a heart attack on Christmas Eve. In 1969, he was given the priesthood in Nice, France. In 2000, he was elevated to the position of head of the Catholic Church in Monaco. As a result of his vital position, he was placed in close proximity with the Catholic royal family of Monaco, and he was in charge of overseeing their most intimate sacraments.

In 2005, the archbishop presided over the funeral of Prince and Princess father, Prince Rainier III. In 2011, he presided over the wedding of Albert and Charlene. and in 2015, he baptized the couple’s twins. Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. In 2020, Barsi will be retiring.
