Riz Ahmed, a British-Pakistani Oscar winner, who joined Saim Sadiq’s Joyland as an executive producer, has offered his opinions on the movie’s prohibition in Pakistan.

When Joyland became involved in the ban debate, Malala Yousufzai penned an article in defence of the game, which Riz then uploaded on his Instagram. “You know it’s an important movie when; the film is banned and when @malala is one of your producers,” he posted on his Instagram story.

Despite the censor board first giving Saim Sadiq’s picture the go light under some pressure, the board ultimately forced to forbid the film’s wide release. Because the movie “included highly unpleasant material,” a ban was placed on it.

The entire team put in a valiant effort to overturn the restriction on the film’s release, and after some time, the censor board’s review committee relaxed the restriction.

Alina Khan, Ali Junejo, Sarwat Gillani, Sania Saeed, and Rasti Farooqi play the leading characters in the movie Joyland. Additionally, the movie has been chosen as Pakistan’s official submission for the 95th Academy Awards.

In Joyland, a story about the sexual revolution, the youngest son of a patriarchal household is expected to have a boy with his wife. Instead, he decides to join an exotic dance company and develops feelings for the transgender director of the group.
