In the late 1980s, Shah Rukh Khan began his acting career in television programs including Circus and Fauji. He started to feature in advertisements once he started to get people’s attention. Additionally, the then-emerging actor was successful in getting himself a television commercial for the first pair of sports shoes created in India. The early ’90s advertisement has surfaced on Instagram ahead of the actor’s most recent release with Pathaan this week, rekindling nostalgia for many fans.

Shahrukh Khan, before he became King Khan, in an old advertisement published on Instagram by Bollywoodirect with the hashtags “#SRK #Bollywood #pathan.” The advertisement features Sylvester Stallone running while wearing the new shoes, and is set to the song Eye of the Tiger from Rocky III from 1982. The actor is shown getting dressed in his workout attire, including a headband, blue T-shirt, and shorts, before taking the brand-new, white shoes out of their box.

A youthful Shah Rukh appears to be quite excited about his outdoor run in the advertisement. The athletic shoes are described as “the stamp of achievement” in the voiceover. Fans responded to the sentimental advertisement by adding red heart emojis to the Instagram post.

The actor began to appear in more commercial and public service advertisements as his notoriety increased, including the well-known tea commercial that Prahlad Kakkar shot in just three days and that earned him enough money to purchase a home. Shah Rukh acknowledged that he didn’t particularly appreciate his appearance in the sports shoes advertisement in Mushtaq Shiekh’s biography of the actor.

But in his first nine years as an actor, he appeared in over 45 TV ads and over 15 brand endorsements. In the book Shah Rukh Can, he stated: “I think that as a celebrity, I paved the way for other actors to do commercials. By endorsing so many things, I gave celebrities who appeared in advertisements legitimacy.”

After a four-year absence, Shah Rukh is making a big-screen comeback with Pathaan. He most recently appeared with co-stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in Aanand L Rai’s Zero (2018). Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, and others are featured in the Siddharth Anand-directed film Pathaan. Release day for the action movie is January 25.
