Shah Rukh Khan’s movie ‘Pathaan‘, which debuted with 57 crore rupees on Wednesday, helped the Indian box office rebound.

The action thriller is also making waves abroad, breaking box office records with a worldwide gross of 106 crore.

The movie, which represents Shah Rukh’s return to the big screen, has shattered previous records held by Hindi movies produced prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst, posted on Twitter, “PATHAAN’: ₹ 106 CR *GROSS* ON DAY 1 WORLDWIDE… #Pathaan demolishes #Worldwide opening day records for #Hindi films… #India + #Overseas *Gross* BOC on *Day 1* is ₹ 106 cr. PHENOMENAL.”

Pathaan, which has now had the highest opening in Hindi film history, had a fantastic opening overseas, he continued.

He added, “‘PATHAAN’ TAKES FABULOUS START OVERSEAS… *Day 1*… #Pathaan registers BIGGEST OPENING DAY for a #Hindi film #Overseas…#UAE + #GCC: $ 1.60 mn, #USA + #Canada: $ 1.50 mn, #UK & Europe: $ 650k, ROW: $ 750k, Total: $ 4.50 mn [  36.69 cr].”

The action movie has made over $1.5 million in North America, and its earnings in the Gulf region are on par with those in the US and Canada taken together.

The Hindi movie easily exceeded 100 crore in its opening day. It will be interesting to see how many more records Pathaan can set as we approach the longer weekend and Republic Day holiday.

According to the movie review, “Pathaan is a classic masala commercial entertainer that makes no attempt to make a political or social statement about the nation as a whole. It’s fantastic, carefree, and fun all at once. If you went to see it for Shah Rukh Khan, all you would have returned with was a smile and perhaps some light grooving. You won’t often see two superstars joking around about their fame, so make sure to watch the scene right before the end credits.”

Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, who plays the villain in the action movie directed by Siddharth Anand, Dimple Kapadia, who plays Pathaan’s boss, and Ashutosh Rana also appear. The script for Pathaan was written by Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyrewala, and it features music by Vishal-Shekhar.
