Steven Spielberg, 76, and Quan, 51, took an opportunity to rekindle their relationship while walking the red carpet at the American Film Institute luncheon on Friday. They also posed for pictures together. Quan kissed Spielberg on the cheek at one point on the carpet as the two affectionately cuddled up to each other and grinned broadly for the camera.

They collaborated on Quan’s big-screen debut as Short Round in Spielberg’s 1984 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which was over 40 years ago.

The former child actor’s career was launched by the movie, and he eventually went on to appear in the 1980s classic The Goonies. Before appearing in Everything Everywhere All at Once, which earned him his first Golden Globe earlier this week, his career in front of the camera took a break.

Quan thanked Spielberg in his acceptance speech after winning the award for best supporting actor in a motion picture for his work on the film.

Quan recalled at the time, “I was raised to never forget where I came from, to always remember who gave me my first opportunity.” “Steven Spielberg being present tonight makes me incredibly delighted. Steven, I am grateful. I was so very happy to have been picked when I began my career as a kid actor in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. As I got older, I began to question whether that was everything and whether it was simply luck.”
