Finally reaching one million Instagram followers, Hilaria Baldwin has drawn some criticism for how it happened.

In posts coming up to the yoga instructor’s 39th birthday on January 6, Alec Baldwin encouraged people to follow his wife on the app, prompting some social media users to label him “shallow.”

“On a birthday, one million followers is what’s important? On Alec’s initial video post, one troll wrote, “Give me a break,” and another said, “Is that really essential in life?”

Many people questioned Alec’s decision to share five different posts on his feed about Hilaria’s follower level.

No offense meant, but could you perhaps elaborate on why this was so crucial? the third person spoke up, followed by comments like “Could you be any more shallow,” Get a handle on it and Really? I almost feel bad for you for asking at all! How undeveloped.

Others brought up Hilaria’s infamous Spanish accent incident, in which she was exposed for making up her Spanish ancestry.

One user joked, “Does Hilaria miraculously become truly Spanish with one million followers,” while another wrote, “*cringes in false Spanish*.”

On Thursday, the “Notting Hill” actor posted a selfie video in which he said, “I would like as many of you as possible, I would like really great, great surge of people to follow my wife on Instagram to say “happy birthday” to my wife.” This is when fans initially started criticizing the actor.

Would you do that for me, he continued? Would you abide by my wife’s Instagram account? Please?”

The former cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” who was dressed casually in a black t-shirt and a shaggy gray beard, introduced Hilaria as his “favorite person” and said that she had “just millimeters shy of a million followers” on the photo-sharing app.

Would you follow my wife on Instagram as a birthday gift, or even just a gesture, he asked further. The mother of seven eventually accomplished the feat with some additional assistance from their Carmen, age 9 daughter.

She requested that people “follow her on Instagram — please, and thank you” in a video that Alec shared.

Then the pleased father added, “Today’s the day.” However, the criticism persisted on Instagram. Alec’s videos were criticized by other people on Twitter, who called them “bizarre” and “embarrassing.”

Perhaps if he had said Por Favor? One individual made a joke, and another claimed to be experiencing “second hand embarrassment.”

Along with Carmen, the couple, who tied the knot in 2012, also has six other kids: Rafael, 7, Leonardo, 6, Romeo, 4, Eduardo, 2, Lucia, 2, and 3-month-old Ilaria.

In addition, the Oscar nominee and his ex-wife Kim Basinger, who he was wed to from 1993 to 2002, have a 27-year-old daughter together named Ireland.
