Akshay Kumar calls himself ‘fortunate’ & says ‘India is everything’
Recently, actor Akshay Kumar claimed he feels awful anytime people make assumptions about his citizenship without his awareness.
At the 20th annual Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, he had previously disclosed that he had sought for an Indian passport in 2019, but that Covid had delayed the procedure. He recently claimed to be “lucky” and attributed his achievement to India.
In the first episode of the current season of Seedhi Baat on Aajtak, Akshay said he feels awful when people make assumptions about his citizenship without understanding them.
“India is everything to me… Whatever I have earned, whatever I have gained is from here. And I’m fortunate that I get a chance to give back. You feel bad when people say things without knowing anything…”
The 55-year-old actor talked about his tough time in Bollywood, when more than 15 of his films didn’t do well at the box office.
“I thought that ‘bhai, my films are not working and one has to work’. I went there for work. My friend was in Canada and he said, ‘come here’. I applied and I got in. I had just two films left for release and it is just luck that they both became superhit.
My friend said, ‘go back, start working again’. I got some more films and I kept getting more work. I forgot that I had the passport. I never thought that I should get this passport changed but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed and once I get the renounced status from Canada…”
Akshay vowed to upgrade his application in 2019, and he did it last year. “Yeah, I had announced that in 2019, I applied for it,” he told.
Then a severe pandemic is going on. 2-2.5 saal sab kuch band hogaya is the range. Renounce ka abhi mera letter aagaya hai (When the epidemic struck, causing a 2- to 2.5-year shutdown of all operations. My letter of renunciation is here, and my entire passport will be arriving soon.
In preparation for the release of his new movie Selfiee, Akshay is now in production. The movie, which was directed by Raj Mehta, also stars Emraan Hashmi, Nushratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty. The planned release date is February 24, 2023.
