Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is expected to have one of the greatest Presidents Day weekends ever, with a four-day opening in the $118 million range. After a $46 million Friday, the third standalone Ant-Man movie and the 31st overall in the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe made $100 million or more during the customary three-day weekend.

The first Ant-Man movie made $57 million on its opening weekend in 2015, and the second movie made $76 million on its debut weekend three years later. This is not only the greatest Ant-Man film opening ever, but it’s also the third-biggest weekend of February. Ant-Man 3 is currently in third place behind other superhero flicks Deadpool ($152 million over four days) and Black Panther ($242 million over four days).

The movie is aiming for a $225 million opening weekend globally, which is a little less than expected. Due to their self-contained (and frequently low-stakes) plots and less well-liked source material, the Ant-Man films have consistently underperformed their more well-known MCU predecessors. The second movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp completed $622 million globally, while the first Ant-Man ended its global run with $519 million.

Ant-Man 3 was purposefully made to be a larger experience, but Marvel may regret this decision given that the movie has received some of the worst reviews in the franchise’s nearly 15-year history. Phase Five of the series needs to be introduced by Ant-Man 3, as Phase Four left some devoted fans feeling unsatisfied.
