Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun have broken up, representatives tell E! News.

While collaborating on Lavigne’s album Love Sux in 2020, she met Mod Sun, whose true name is Derek Smith. They jointly released a single titled Flames in January 2021. The following month, they began dating, and in April 2022, they became engaged.

The same day, Mod Sun’s representative, however, told the site, “If anything has changed, that is news to him. They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour.” According to sources close to the couple, who have been together “on and off for the previous two months,” they are no longer a couple.

Mod Sun, 35, and the When You are Gone singer, 38, were last spotted together in the public at a pre-Grammy celebration honoring Julie Greenwald and Craig Kallman in Los Angeles. Earlier this week, TMZ revealed pictures of singer-songwriter The Girlfriend cuddling rapper Tyga after a meal at Malibu, California’s Nobu restaurant.

Rumors of a relationship between the two performers were prompted by the photographs, but an insider informed People that “Avril and Tyga are genuinely friends and nothing more.” There was absolutely no involvement of a third party in the separation.
