Benedict Cumberbatch will return as a desperate parent opposite Gaby Hoffmann.  The principal part will be played by the renowned Sherlock Holmes actor. Vincent Anderson, the father, is desperately looking for his missing nine-year-old son, who vanished one morning while travelling to school.

Eric showcases New York of 1980s, when Vincent was one of the city’s leading puppeteers and the creator of the hugely popular children’s television show, ‘Good Day Sunshine’. He becomes increasingly distressed and volatile as he struggles to cope with the loss of his son, Edgar.

Vincent, who is struggling with guilt over Edgar’s departure, clings to his son’s drawings of the blue monster puppet ERIC in the hopes that if he can get his son’s artwork on TV, Edgar will come home. The series’ cast also includes Gaby Hoffmann as Cassie Anderson and McKinley Belcher III as Detective Michael Ledroit in addition to Cumberbatch.

Abi Morgan OBE, a BAFTA and Emmy winner who previously wrote The Split, River, and Suffragette, invented and wrote Eric. “Eric is a dark and chaotic voyage into the heart of 1980s New York, and the good bad and ugly world of Vincent, a talented puppeteer on one of America’s leading kids TV shows,” said Abi Morgan, the show is executive producer.

The opportunity to work with Benedict and the Sister and Netflix creative teams, he continued, is enticing.
