Paramount Network, Paramount Global, and the show’s co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan may be discontinuing the popular Western in its current incarnation while still attempting to expand the franchise with a new Matthew McConaughey-led series.

According to insiders, Kevin Costner, the show’s current leader, and producers are at odds about when to shoot certain scenes. Actors on the program, which also stars Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, and Gil Birmingham, are reportedly experiencing morale problems due to friction.

We have no news to report, a spokeswoman for Paramount Network said in a statement, trying to assuage supporters’ concerns. We hope that Kevin Costner will continue to play a significant role in “Yellowstone” for a very long time.

For the opening episode of the current fifth season of the series, Costner gave himself 65 days to shoot it, although he ultimately only wanted to shoot for 50 days. Costner apparently only wants to spend one-week filming, prompting an alleged breach with the cast since they are now filming the second half of the episodes.

For his performance as John Dutton, the proprietor of the Yellowstone ranch, in the Paramount series, Costner received a Golden Globe award in January. He is presently at work on “Horizon,” a four-part film in which he also stars, produces, and directs.

Costner put his 160-acre Aspen ranch up for rent last week for a staggering $36,000 per night.
