The upcoming Bheed by Anbuhav Sinha takes a look back at the early COVID-19 shutdown in 2020, when migrant workers from various cities returned to their villages since they had no access to food or money. The new immigrant is compared by the filmmaker to the division of India in 1947. The movie’s lead actors are Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, and it is based on real events.

The movie’s first teaser, which will be released later this month, was posted by Rajkummar. On Instagram, he wrote: “Uss waqt ki jab batwara desh mein nahi, samaaj mein hua tha, hum kahaani bata rahe hai (We are telling the story of that time where there was a divide not in the country, but in society). Black and white tale of the worst of times, #Bheed. released in theaters on March 24, 2023.” The quick teaser alternates between images taken during the division and in 2020, when migrant families began to flee the cities in great numbers. In bus and train stations, groups can be seen assembling in an effort to find a means to get back home.

Even though the teaser does not yet feature any of the movie’s cast, it establishes the mood for the whole thing. Our darkest days in black and white, according to Bheed’s tagline.” The director explained to Variety why the decision was made to tell the drama in black and white. He revealed, “The story of Bheed takes place during a time when everything for humanity was in danger. The main reason for shooting the movie in black and white was to emphasize how the social imbalance that was seen during India’s lockdown and what people experienced during the 1947 India partition were startlingly comparable. This tale is about folks whose lives were abruptly altered and whose colors were erased when the border was drawn.

While Bhumi Pednekar plays the part of a doctor, Rajkummar appears to be portraying a police officer. The ensemble cast for the movie also includes Pankaj Kapur, Ashutosh Rana, Dia Mirza, Virendra Saxena, Aditya Shrivastava, Kritika Kamra, and Karan Pandit. The movie Bheed, which was made by T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks, will be shown in theaters on March 24, 2023.
