The abrupt death of Satish Kaushik on Wednesday morning shocked a number of people in the film community. Ssumier S Pasricha, an actor and singer, recalls his friendship with the veteran and tells with emotion how Kaushik’s belief in him prevented him from becoming a professional actor.

He wrote in his tweet, “This is disturbing… Satish ji is the sole reason I arrived in Mumbai and integrated into this society. He will always have my gratitude.

Pasricha now recounts how Kaushik was the inspiration in his life in an exclusive conversation. “Satish Kaushik ji first noticed me while I was performing in a play with Shekhar Kapoor in Delhi, and he immediately told me I was outstanding. Why are you squandering time in Delhi. You have to visit Mumbai. I am the madad karunga,'”

This occurred in the beginning of 2009, and a few months later Pasricha made the decision to follow Kaushik’s counsel and go for Mumbai. As I didn’t know anyone in the city when I arrived and Kaushik welcomed me with open arms, I called him right away. He assisted me in getting in touch with his manager, who set up several auditions for me. As a result, I was able to  got my first film Hum Tum Shaba. The film did not do great but I got the opportunity and a way to look forward to because of Satish sir,” shares the Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021) actor.

Pasricha continues by highlighting Kaushik’s great character traits in addition to his artistic talent. “Aaj kal aapke dost aapki madad nahi krte and Satish sir did so much for a stranger who he saw randomly,” the author writes. I owe him everything I am now, including the courage he gave me. Had he not displayed that trust in me, I never would have traveled to Mumbai or chosen to become an actress. He made me into who I am today, he tells us.

After carving out a niche for herself in the business, Pasricha reconnected with Kaushik at an awards ceremony. In 2016, I was the event’s host. And as he (Kaushik) entered, I said, “Sir, I am your fan,” to which he responded.
