‘The Last of Us’ star Bella Ramsey opens up about cold weather during shoot
Last of Us Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, talked about the bitter cold that day while the eighth episode of the show was being filmed.
The day they shot episode 8 was so chilly, according to Ramsey, 19, that it damaged her voice.
When We Are in Need was the title of the HBO show that aired on Sunday night. Throughout majority of the episodes, Ramsey was absent from their regular scene partner Pedro Pascal.
Ramsey revealed to GQ that the scene in which Ellie first encounters Scott Shepherd’s David and Troy Baker’s James—who played Joel in the original video game—was shot on the coldest day of the entire production.
“My voice sort of changes a bit in that scene,” they said.
“Hearing it back — I’ve just heard the ADR, I haven’t actually seen the episode yet — it’s so hard to speak normally when it’s that cold, like your mouth just doesn’t work” they added.
Together with Ramsey, Jasmila “bani,” the episode 6 director of The Last of Us, also talked about the frigid surroundings while filming.
Bani admitted to Variety that the production on set was “very challenging” at times because it was – 15 degrees Celsius, or roughly 5 degrees Fahrenheit.
It was minus 17 degrees Celsius, or roughly 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, when they shot the opening sequence with Shepherd and Baker in episode 8, according to Ramsey.
“Like, eight-minute long takes, holding this super heavy gun in the freezing cold, it was… everything you see is very real,” they told GQ.
“I’m glad of it, because you can tell when something is legit. And yeah, it was cold, man. We huddled around the heaters” they added.
