The Harry Potter films, starring Daniel Radcliffe, will return to Chinese cinemas after more than a decade. Fans of the fantasy series in mainland China are excited about the news, as these movies will be among the first Hollywood titles to screen during the national holidays. The films will run from Thursday through the following week.

Starting October 11, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will kick off the screenings, followed by the rest of the series shown weekly. Fans will have the option to watch the films in various formats, including traditional 2D, as well as premium options like CINITY, IMAX, and Dolby Cinema, allowing everyone to enjoy the magic of Harry Potter in their preferred viewing experience.

Warner Bros. Studios announced the films’ re-release, calling it a historic moment in cinema. For the first time, all eight “Harry Potter” movies will be shown on such a large scale in any region, with the Chinese audience having the privilege of being part of this cinematic milestone.

The pandemic years significantly impacted Hollywood in mainland China, as the country’s film industry grew stronger and saw high domestic consumption.

As per the statement, Kurt Reider, the head of theatrical release for Warner Bros., claimed, “This release marks a significant milestone for the ‘Harry Potter’ film series, as it is the first time all eight films will be available consecutively at such a large scale in any territory.” He further added, “There is a whole generation of Chinese audiences, however, which have not had the chance to enjoy the ‘Harry Potter’ movies in theaters.”

The Harry Potter movies rose to popularity in the early 2010s and retained their audience for over a decade during their theatrical run.
