Malayalam actor Bala, also known as Balakumar, has been arrested by the Kadavanthra police in Ernakulam, Kerala, following a complaint from his ex-wife and singer Amrutha Suresh.

Bala is allegedly accused of insulting a woman’s modesty and of breaking other laws of juvenile justice. According to News9, Bala’s driver, who served as his employee for three years, gave testimony in support of allegations that he saw Bala physically abuse Amrutha several times, including in front of Avantika, their 12-year-old daughter, and other family members.

The driver stated in a Facebook post, “Now, I don’t want to hide anything since their relationship is over. Bala had ill-treated her in a brutal manner and I was witness to it. She had scars on her body for which she had been to treatment. I was witness to all these.”

Bala previously claimed that Amrutha was preventing him from seeing their daughter. Avantika, however, posted a video in which she claimed that Bala misbehaved toward both her and her mother. Bala replied that he would no longer want to be involved in Avantika’s life if she did not want to see him. Bala was arrested at his Kochi apartment, along with his manager. In the Malayalam film industry, Bala hails from a well-known filmmaking family.
